Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cup low-sodium turkey broth
  • 0.5 tsp kosher salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper

Equipment

  • 1 3-quart saucepan

Method

  1. Melt the butter in a 3-quart saucepan over medium heat, about 1 to 2 minutes.
  2. Whisk in the flour and cook, whisking constantly, for 1 to 2 minutes, until the roux is smooth and lightly golden.
  3. Gradually whisk in the turkey broth until smooth.
  4. Bring the gravy to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  5. Simmer, whisking often, for 5 to 8 minutes, until the gravy thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.
  6. Stir in the salt and black pepper.
  7. Taste, and serve hot.

Notes

Whisk the broth in gradually to keep the gravy smooth. Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days; freeze for up to 3 months. For a dairy-free version, use plant-based butter.
