Ingredients

For the casserole
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup condensed
  • 0.75 cup milk
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 0.125 tsp ground black pepper
  • 2 cans (14.5 oz) cut green beans drained
For the topping
  • 1.33 cup French fried onions

Equipment

  • 1 1 1/2-quart casserole dish

Method

Mix the casserole
  1. Heat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Grease a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish.
  3. In a large bowl, stir together the condensed cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and ground black pepper.
  4. Fold in the drained cut green beans.
  5. Transfer the mixture to the prepared dish.
Bake and finish
  1. Bake for 25 minutes, until hot and bubbling around the edges.
  2. Sprinkle the French fried onions evenly over the top.
  3. Bake for 5 minutes, until the onions are golden brown.

Notes

For the best texture, add the French fried onions only for the final 5 minutes of baking. Refrigerate leftovers for 3–4 days; freezing is not recommended because the creamy sauce and topping can lose their texture. For a gluten-free variation, use gluten-free condensed mushroom soup and French fried onions.
